How to make 'pennies' count as 'dollars'?

As you walk down the street talk with a new person daily. Gradually stare their conversation towards what, how and where they would like to 'be' in a few months time. 

The old saying of "count the pennies and let the dollars take care of themselves" is appropriate here. Short term goals are like a fish hook.
